DOC CHICAGO: mini-conference by and for Chicago filmmakers Doc | Chicago coil


After a one-year hiatus, DOC CHICAGO returns to bring together Chicago-area documentary makers to learn from each other, exchange ideas and connect.

The free hybrid mini-conference takes place From Friday November 5 to Sunday November 7. Friday afternoon sessions and Sunday grant writing workshop will be held online, while an in-person rally will be held on Saturday, November 6 at the Chicago Cultural Center.

From panels and film screenings to community conversation, DOC CHICAGO will provide many opportunities for local filmmakers to speak with presenters and other attendees, creating a meeting space for Chicago’s diverse documentary community. Among the presenters are renowned documentary filmmakers like Judy Hoffman, a member of the Kartemquin Films collective and professor at the University of Chicago, as well as up-and-coming media creators like Naeema Torres, Nevo Shinaar and Latoya Flowers. Online sessions will focus on audience engagement, distribution and local grants for documentary makers, as well as a grant writing workshop.

All in-person parties of DOC CHICAGO will require participants to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination and wear masks. Admission is free, but pre-registration for all sessions is required through Eventbrite: VISIT HERE

DOC CHICAGO will also feature two in-person film screenings: a DOC CHICAGO short film showcase featuring short works from established and next-generation filmmakers will be co-presented with Chicago Filmmakers on Saturday night, November 6. DOC CHICAGO will also co-host the Chicago premiere of local filmmakers Meredith Zielke and Yoni Goldstein’s A Machine to Live In as part of the Chicago Underground Film Festival on Sunday, November 7. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door via the CUFF festival program: VISIT HERE
