Audubon Chief Curator Marshal Johnsonwhich is currently appearing on IMAX screens nationwide in the “wings on water” documentary film narrated by Michael Keaton, said:
“Birds provide the soundtrack to our experience in nature. And now we have all these wonderful artists who come alongside the birds to celebrate them and reach out to them. Birds are for everyone, and they have a lot to tell us. I hope The Birdsong Project will inspire more people to experience the joy of birds, and I believe it will.
“For the Birds: The Birdsong Project” is the business of the Grammy Award-winning music supervisor To post of Premier Music Group, which became much more aware of the birds and birdsong around it while staying at home in New York during the early days of COVID-19. The project was further inspired by the idea of celebrating birdsong from his friend and executive producer of the album Rebecca Reagan, who brought great creative vision and wisdom to the project. The poster quickly learned that while two-thirds of North American bird species are threatened by climate change and more than one in four North American birds have disappeared since 1970, conservation efforts can help the majority of bird populations recover. He began contacting artists to help create a benefit album and reached out to Audubon board member and actor Lili Taylor (“Outer Range”, “The Conjuring”) to discuss a partnership with Audubon.
“We will engage generations of people in the most joyful and gracious way possible: through the chirping of birds,” said Attach. “It is essential that we raise awareness for this cause by recruiting the biggest names in music and entertainment, and I am so grateful to partner with the National Audubon Society in doing so. Partnership is the key to protecting and conserving the natural world that we all love and share.
Many other organizations are engaged as partners in The Birdsong Project. Brooklyn Botanical Garden‘s”For the birds” (presented by Warby Parker) is a series of multidisciplinary exhibitions and programs from June 11 to October 23, including a garden-scale installation of birdhouses created by artists, a gallery exhibition by Taryn Simon, a sound bath featuring Alex Somers , weekly birding tours, workshops for children, evening events , and more. International Birdsa global science and conservation partnership, will host a Birdsong Project concert at its centenary celebration in London in September (Audubon is a member and co-founder of BirdLife). Birds Collective designed a clothing collection for the Birdsong project. Many other cultural institutions, gardens and conservation organizations are also developing events and activities for summer 2022 and beyond.
