Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special gets an awesome mix
Writer-director James Gunn confirms that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will continue the franchise’s beloved tradition of mix tapes.
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is getting its own Awesome Mix, writer-director James Gunn recently confirmed.
Gunn tweeted that the upcoming Disney+ special features a “delicious” compilation playlist, featuring several original tracks. The first Awesome Mix debuted in 2014 guardians of the galaxy, as a cassette mixtape given to Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) by his late mother. Star-Lord acquires another mixtape, titled “Awesome Mix Vol. 2”, during that film‘s finale, and songs from it are featured in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The sequel also expands Star-Lord’s music collection even further, after the superhero receives a Zune digital media player loaded with over 300 tracks. A sample Zune library is included in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgameduring scenes featuring Star-Lord and his teammates.
Although Gunn did not provide any further details regarding the contents of Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special‘s Awesome Mix, fans don’t have long to wait before they can hear it for themselves. The special is set to air in November, as evidenced by Disney+ stepping up its promotional campaign. More recently, a new Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special attach surfaced online featuring Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) dressed in proper party attire.
Guardians get into the Christmas spirit
Previously released promo artwork for the special as well focuses around Drax and Mantis, depicting the pair wrapped in Christmas lights and slumped against a parking meter. The first reactions of critics to Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special indicate that this poster is an apt depiction of the special itself, which apparently focuses heavily on Drax and Mantis’ antics (at least some of which are fueled by alcohol).
These antics will include the attempt to kidnap Hollywood legend Kevin Bacon, as evidenced by the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Specialthe teaser. Drax and Mantis attempt to remove the Free from all ties star as a way to cheer up Star-Lord, who is still mourning the death of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) in Avengers: Infinity War. Bacon portrays a fictionalized version of himself in the special, which Gunn has since tagged his new favorite MCU character. Gunn also hinted that Bacon’s MCU career doesn’t fully align with that of his real-world counterpart, as Bacon apparently starred in Cocktail and Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind in the Marvel Studios shared universe.
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special premieres on Disney+ on November 25, 2022.
