Ludhiana Public Schools make announcements at places of worship to boost enrollment

With the start of admissions, public schools in the district are turning to local religious shrines, including gurdwaras, to raise awareness of the affordability and quality of education in their institutions.

Devotees visiting these shrines are advised of the nominal fee structure, provision of free books and uniforms, scholarships and other facilities available to public school students.

Not just school staff, even granthis can be seen making admissions announcements.

Following instructions from Chief Executive of School Education (DGSE) Pradeep Aggarwal to increase enrolment, District Education Officer Jaswinder Kaur has asked headteachers and principals to make announcements at local religious shrines .

Various schools including Government Model School (GMS), Mangli Tanda, Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Lakho Gadowal, GSSS PAU, Government High School (GHS) Daad, GHS Pakhowal, GSSS Nasrali Block, Khanna, GMS Aloona Tola Block Khanna – 1, GHS Ramgarh Sardaran, Dehlon, GSSS Doraha, etc. secured announcements made in local gurdwaras to attract more students to public schools.

Schools have also uploaded these videos to their official Facebook pages and the Department of Education webpage.

In one of the videos, a GSSS announcer, Doraha, is seen highlighting the modern facilities available at the school, including projectors, computers and scholarships, as well as other attractions including free uniforms , a midday meal service, the NCC, a huge playground. , renovated school building, greenery, etc.

He also informed people about the availability of vocational courses in the school as well as regular streams such as medicine, non-medicine, arts and commerce.

A teacher from GSSS, PAU, while addressing a gathering at a local gurdwara, also spoke about the highly trained and qualified teachers at the school.

The state Department of Education has formed “Enrollment Strengthening Teams,” as well as state, district, block and school-level committees.

The DGSE had further requested principals to upload videos, documentaries and posters highlighting their school’s achievements and attractions, as well as their admissions “theme song” on online platforms, and share the link with parents, students and NGOs.
