Q4 2021: Nollywood records a 1.9% increase in film production

Prestigious music program Spotify EQUAL has announced Ghanaian star, Amaarae, as Artist of the Month for January.

The red-gold-green nation’s global sensation is the cover of Spotify’s EQUAL Africa playlist, which compiles the music of “the fiercest African women making waves”.

Spotify EQUAL is a commitment to amplifying the voices of women in the music industry, as only 25% of artists on the charts are women, according to USC Annenberg research, funded by Spotify.

The EQUAL program has seven categories, including EQUAL Artists of the Month and EQUAL Local Playlists, where Amaarae represents the January 2022 selection.

“I’m incredibly proud to be EQUAL’s Artist of the Month in recognition of all the barriers my creative work seeks to break down. This is a victory for Ghanaian and African designers,” enthuses Amaarae.
