REGENERATION: BLACK CINEMA, 1898-1971 is a historical exploration of black participation in American cinema from its beginnings to beyond the civil rights movement.
This recently discovered 1898 silent film “Something Good” welcomes you to this new exhibition. Among the hundreds of important and historical objects here, the Oscar Sidney Poitier received in 1963 for his performance of BEST ACTOR in the film “Field Lilies.”

Documentary by the iconic actor, filmmaker and civil rights activist
Oscar-winning actor, filmmaker and activist Sidney Poitier is featured in this new documentary titled SIDNEY. The gripping feature produced by Oprah Winfrey and Derik Murray and director Reginald Hudlin is a portrait of the life and legacy of the first black actor and first Bahamian to win the Oscar can be seen on tv.apple.com.

The magnificent Aston Martin DB10 was specially designed for the film “Spectre” by Daniel Craig James Bond. Time is running out for you to see the sleek silver shark and all the vehicles from the James Bond film series at BOND IN MOTION at the Petersen Automotive Museum. It is the largest exhibition of its kind in the United States. It closes on Sunday, October 23rd!

Crossing Waters: Contemporary Tongva Artists Wearing Pimugna

The Catalina Museum of Art and History celebrates Indigenous peoples with its new exhibit created by Native American artists titled Crossing Waters: Contemporary Tongva Artists Carrying Pimugna. Museum curator Johnny Sampson said indigenous and Mexican artist River Garza was one of the attendees.

Oceanic Arts Vintage Tiki Collection Auctions 2

The Oceanic Arts Vintage Tiki Collection is available at auction this weekend. This compilation of mid-century artifacts was produced by so-called “Godfathers of Tiki” Leroy Schmaltz and Bob Van Oosting for their Oceanic Arts Company in Whittier. Since 1956, the team has carved and sold tiki and Polynesian inspired art and decor to restaurants, hotels and movie studios. According to the Peekaboogallery.com website, the one-day weekend auction begins at 9 a.m.
