Parody is going through a rough patch as a genre, and the golden age of parody film is long dead. The face of the genre in modern times is unfortunately the abyssal production of Seltzer and Friedberg as epic movie Where Vampires Suck. Peter and his best friend Sam uncover high school drama, teenage deception, faculty malfeasance, and sometimes serious hidden issues. It’s an intense mystery, chock-full of immature humor, but focused on both solving real social problems and critiquing the weak points of the true-crime documentary genre.


The series as the audience experiences it exists in the narrative, Peter uploads each episode to YouTube after it ends, and the characters are constantly reacting to the secrets being revealed. Because the investigation is conducted by 15-year-olds, it’s largely stupid and most real breakthroughs happen by accident. Peter and Sam take strange tangents to investigate their classmates’ actions, only tangentially related to the vandalism case. Dylan looks guilty at every turn, but there’s an odd charm to his immature hedonism. The documentary enters strange territory with its characters, but the negative consequences are addressed. He points a definite finger at the dangers of real crime media, the negative attention that often comes to secondary characters. It’s both clever and childish, clever and crude, it works on many levels. The series’ ending thesis, the true horror of someone finally knowing what everyone thinks of them, is delivered with chilling perfection.


The second season of the series does not hold up as well as the first. Peter and Sam, made famous by the show’s first season and now canonically funded by Netflix, head to another school to investigate a new crime. The first season benefits from all the major characters existing in the same ecosystem. The high school’s ever-changing sociological ecosystem and all the players involved influencing each other like rival nations in times of war were key to the tension. The second season lacks that, but still manages the clever juxtaposition of serious presentation and pot humor. The need to go deeper forces season 2 into more extravagant crime, and while it’s gross, it’s a bit more gruesome than the phallic degradation of the first season. The first season is a work of art with a fantastic ending, but fans will appreciate the evolution of the second season’s format.

The idea could have easily been a boring waste of time, but the series elevates the simple concept with excellent writing and direction. american vandal will work best on sketch comedy fans, those who had a hard time in high school, and anyone who is fed up make a murderer format. The 46and The annual Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) kicks off in late March at Playhouse Square with 146 features and 182 shorts. After adapting the past two years with online streaming, this year will be a hybrid experience.

“Just moving to Playhouse Square would make everything new, but on top of that, a pandemic and it gets quite interesting and complicated,” said Marcie Goodman, the festival’s executive director.

CIFF presents 11 days of in-person films from March 30 to April 9, followed by eight days of streaming via the CIFF Streams app from April 10 to 17.

“About 60% feature, and I think every short will be streaming,” Goodman said.

Two films with ties to Russia were pulled from the lineup ahead of Monday’s announcement due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The festival joined other arts and cultural organizations supporting Ukraine in deciding “not to screen at CIFF46 any films produced by companies based in Russia or funded in any way by the Russian Federation”, announced the festival in a press release.

“Erie Situation” is a documentary about toxic algae in Lake Erie.

Several CIFF feature films have ties to Ohio, such as “Erie Situation,” a documentary about toxic algae in the lake, and “Full Out: Inside Ohio Show Choir,” which follows groups of high school students in Solon, Strongsville, Garfield Heights and Hamilton, Ohio.

“Part of our mission is to bring the latest and greatest films from around the world to Cleveland. And of course that also means the latest and greatest films locally,” said Goodman.

The festival opens with “Peace by Chocolate,” based on the true story of a family who resettled in Canada after their chocolate factory was bombed in Syria. The closing film, “Linoleum,” is a sci-fi comedy-drama set in a fictional Ohio town and starring Jim Gaffigan as the host of a failing children’s show.

Other offerings include “We Feed People,” a Ron Howard-directed documentary about celebrity chef José Andrés and his nonprofit that provides food to communities after disasters, and “Klondike,” a timely drama about a future family living the war in Ukraine / Russian border.

CIFF will take advice from Playhouse Square regarding COVID-19 protocols, which now leaves masking decisions up to customers unless otherwise specified.

After 29 years at the now-closed Tower City Cinemas in Cleveland, and before that at the Cedar Lee Theater in Cleveland Heights, Goodman called Playhouse Square the festival’s “forever home.”

When asked if hybrid festivals would continue for CIFF in the future, Goodman said it was too early to decide. CIFF said last year’s festival reached a national audience of more than 102,000 viewers.

The Watsonville Film Festival (WFF) will come full circle as it celebrates its 10th anniversary with a special in-person event at the Mello Center for the Performing Arts, where it all began in 2012. The Festival will also feature a program of virtual films exceptional free of charge, from March 11 to 20. The Cine Se Puede Fellowship 2022, which provides support and mentorship to local emerging filmmakers, will also be a featured activity at the festival.

This year, we bring you an incredibly powerful selection of films, most of them directed by women. We will also honor Josefina Lopez, a trailblazing Latina and Los Angeles-based playwright and screenwriter.

Under the theme 10 years of cultivating community through film, the WFF will present a virtual program featuring more than 30 award-winning, local and student films from March 11-20 via its streaming channel at watsonvillefilmfest.org.

This year’s films shine a light on Latinx art, activism, resistance and community. Highlights include the Oscar nominee The Mole Agent by director Maité Alberdi; two-time Sundance winner Identifying features by director Fernanda Valadezand nominated for the Mexican Ariel Award Things we dare notyou Do by director Bruno Santamaría.

The Festival is collaborating for the first time with POV, the award-winning independent non-fiction film series on PBS, presenting seven documentary films, including fruits of labor, a documentary by director Emily Cohen Ibañez about the life, dreams and challenges of a teenage girl and her family in Watsonville.

When our family first got cable TV, one of the shows I constantly watched on my way home from high school was Who does it belong to anyway?, the British show hosted by Clive Anderson. Improv comedy was something new to me at the time, and I absolutely ate it. How can they just make this stuff up live? After a few months, I began to understand that there really was a method and a structure to their program. Maybe the magic wasn’t there now, but I still have very fond memories of those early Clive Anderson episodes.

I stopped following the show, but I know they did an American version, hosted by Drew Carey. Currently the show is hosted by Aisha Tyler, who I will see on TV from time to time.

My favorite comedians Who owns the line anyway were Ryan Stiles and Greg Proops… and guess what? Their dynamic duo will appear live on their tour titled Who lives anyway show, this April 8, 2022, at the Fitzgerald Theater in St Paul. The other two actors are Jeff B. Davis and Joel Murray. It looks like such a fun show, especially because I know Stiles and Proops are going to be hilarious.

A researcher at Binghamton University sometimes has to go somewhere really quiet to do his job.

That’s when Ron Miles, a prominent professor in the school’s mechanical engineering department, enters a special room called the anechoic chamber in the Innovative Technologies Complex.

Miles uses the underground chamber as a laboratory. It is considered one of the quietest rooms in the world with walls covered in sound-absorbing materials. It’s surrounded by heavy, thick walls designed to block sounds — like the vibrations of trucks on the nearby Vestal Parkway — from being heard inside.

Miles said most of his research has been in sound detection technology, including microphones. The goal of some work is to develop better hearing aids.

Miles said that to do this, “a very, very quiet space” is needed.

Miles has worked in the mechanical engineering department at Binghamton University since 1989.

His acoustic research explored the hearing abilities of flies, mosquitoes and spiders.

High school sports teams get all the attention this time of year, but skilled trades competitors will get the jobs and high-paying jobs.

So let’s talk about… soldering.

Builders of the future

Much like the district and regional basketball tournaments that are underway right now, the school district welding competition is also heating up the week.

On Wednesday, Feb. 23, more than 80 student welders from across the state will gather at the Wapato High School Ag. Mechanics Shop to compete in a district welding contest. Never assume, so… what is welding?

Welding is a manufacturing process in which two or more parts are fused together by means of heat, pressure, or both, forming a joint when the parts cool. Welding is typically used on metals and thermoplastics, but can also be used on wood. The completed welded joint can be called a weld.

In other words, welding is the process that keeps much of the world together and in its place. It comes across as kind of important in my book! (My father knew how to weld and I have an uncle and brother-in-law who are both highly skilled professional welders)

Who is the best behind the mask

The competition at Wapato will be based on real-world industry standards, with students judged on their ability to read blueprints and work with others to successfully complete a project with the proper welds.

Welding has a solid future

The Bureau of Labor Statistics said

The employment of welders, cutters, brazers and brazers is is expected to grow by 8% between 2020 and 2030, about as fast as the average for all professions. About 49,200 openings for welders, cutters, welders and brazers are projected each year, on average, in the decade that could change for the better for welders with baby boomers retiring and the bill on Biden infrastructure generating projects that will require welders.

Welding is one of the highest-paying skilled trades in the country, with a median entry-level wage of over $40,000 per year, or about $20 per hour. It’s also an accessible career since the requirement to start learning the trade is usually a high school diploma (or GED).

Meet the need, earn money

the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) reported that 60% of manufacturers looking to hire reject about half of all applicants because they lack welding skills and training. NAM also reports that more than 80% of US manufacturers complain that they cannot find enough qualified welders to meet demand.

In Washington State, the average base wage for a welder is $21.67 an hour, but welders working for the Department of Energy can earn $52.60 an hour… that’s over $100,000 a year.

And while welding is a male-dominated profession, there’s always a chance you’ll run into someone like the seductive Alex (Jennifer Beals) who welded and seduced in the movie “Flashdance.” The song “Flashdance…What A Feeling” won the award for best song in cinema.

The 19th Annual Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is a hybrid event. Screenings at Wilma, Roxy, ZACC and MCT run through February 27. The seats are limited; advance purchase of tickets is highly recommended at bigskyfilmfest.org/festival/tickets. Door-to-door sales are not guaranteed to spectators who arrive without a ticket. All tickets are good for in-person or online screenings.

The shorts will be available online from Monday February 21 to Thursday March 3. Feature films will be available for viewing online for four days, beginning the day after the film’s last in-person screening.
