Three inmates for submitting false certificates for the EDV program

KATMANDU: It was revealed that some of those who went through visa processes after receiving an EDV-2021 submitted fake academic certificates.

Fake university certificates were found during an investigation launched into those attempting to travel to America under the EDV, the Nepalese police headquarters said.

Nepalese police spokesman SSP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar said three people were arrested in connection with the case and were investigating the case.

Those arrested are Jeevan Karki, 36, from Chitwan, currently residing at Kathmandu Metropolitan-14, Kalanki, Nabin Darai, 31, from Chitwan, Khairahani and Shiva Rokka, 32, from Rautahat, Chandrapur, currently residing in Koteshwor.

The Metropolitan Police Crime Division has opened an investigation into the case following a complaint filed by the US Embassy that false plus 2 university certificates were submitted by some applicants during US visa processes .

An MPCD team arrested Darai and Rokka from Maharajgunj. During the investigation, Darai admitted to having obtained his false university certificate for Rs 170,000 from Jeevan Karki. Karki was also arrested in Kalanki.

Police forwarded a case against them under article 25 of the 2017 National Penal Code.
