ARTS: THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS: THE THIRTIES As the rest of the country mired in the Great Depression, Las Vegas was making its way. A documentary funded by the Las Vegas Centennial Commission explores how the events of the 1930s set the stage for Las Vegas as we know it today. From building the Hoover Dam to legalizing gambling and creating (relatively) quick divorces, much of the fabulous Las Vegas hallmark dates back to that landmark decade. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters typically throws this challenge to audiences at the end of Grammy-winning rock group 12’s sets, and he keeps his word.
